Sony WF-1000XM4: What to Expect After the Latest Headphones Leaks

Recent leaks suggest that the long-awaited true wireless stereo headset Sony WF-1000XM4 can receive some much-needed upgrades. While some important details about the new design and features have been revealed, some questions remain. The WF-1000XM3 is one of the few audio products that supports Sony's 360 Reality Audio ecosystem. Headphones are considered to be the company's best TWS record to date for headphones.

Introduced in 2019, the WF-1000XM3 uses a similar QN1e HD processor found in Sony's top WH-1000XM3 headphones. This results in excellent sound quality and noise reduction. However, the WF-1000XM3's lack of wireless charging and support for high-resolution audio, as well as its intricate advanced design, make it look a bit dated. The question now is whether the WF-1000XM4 offers as significant a change as the WH-1000XM4.

According to TheWalkmanBlog, this is starting to look like leaked information suggesting that Sony's next TWS headset is undergoing an overhaul. Various leaked images of the WF-1000XM4 prototype allegedly show a smaller frame and rounded exterior more like a traditional headphone design than its predecessor's unusual elongated aesthetic. This means that the Sony logo has been moved to the side, there's a redesigned convex external microphone on the end of the handset and of course there's a little room for touch controls. The same goes for the charging case, where the two-tone copper finish on the WF-1000XM3 case is removed for a more mundane matt black look. The next big TWS headphones from Sony will arrive sometime in June.

It is only right for the WF-1000XM4 to have as many advanced features as the larger version of the headphones, as they are said to be from the same generation. As well as a redesigned design, these new headphones support high definition wireless audio such as Sony's LDAC. The leak suggests that the box may have chargeable wireless charging support on the Xperia 1 III smartphone

Additionally, the WF-1000XM4 is said to benefit from the faster loading speeds of its predecessor. However, there's still no word on whether AptX is supported, whether the headphones can last longer than the current version's six-hour operating time, or whether the new headphones are water-resistant. Despite the boring new case design, the WF-1000XM4 headphones definitely sound better than the current model, which says a lot when you consider that the Sony WF-1000XM3 are some of the best ANC headphones to buy.
