iOS 16.2 is expected to roll out to iPhones this week. A new operating system update loaded with new features for your Apple smartphone. We summarize it all in this article.

iOS 16 is now well established on iPhones. As usual, Apple's operating system is regularly entitled to new updates. After iOS 16.1 which had notably improved the Dynamic Island and the lock screen, it is the turn of iOS 16.2 to point the tip of its nose. While its launch is scheduled for this week, let's take stock of the notable new features brought by the update.

iOS 16.2: what's new?

Apple Music Song

Apple Music Sing is a new built-in default  karaoke mode for Apple Music users. It is expected to roll out with the iOS 16.2 update to eligible tracks available on the music streaming app.

Improved always-on display

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have an always-on screen. But it was criticized by some users who considered it too cluttered. Thanks to iOS 16.2, it will be possible to remove the wallpaper and/or notifications when the always-on display is on.

The Freeform app is coming

Freeform is a brainstorming and collaboration tool that takes the form of a large whiteboard that people can work on in real time. Oriented iPad, the application will also be available on iPhone and macOS Ventura.

Triggering accident detection

Accident detection can be triggered erroneously. The emergency services are then contacted when there is no danger, which is annoying. Thanks to iOS 16.2, it will be possible to report improper triggering of the emergency SOS. A way, we hope, to further reduce the occurrence of false positives.

Data protection

The iCloud online storage service should benefit from end-to-end encryption. A significant additional level of security for your most sensitive data. This new feature is expected to roll out with iOS 16.2 or early next year.

Airdrop: sharing restricted to 10 minutes

If you have checked the "Everyone" option in the Airdrop settings, you will be able to receive files from other users located nearby. From now on, this possibility turns off after 10 minutes. You have to check the option again manually to benefit from it longer. A way to avoid spam and the sharing of inappropriate content in crowded places.

Redesign of the Home app

The Home application that oversees connected devices has the right to an overhaul. Apple says the change will mean faster and more reliable performance.
