Islamabad: In the wake of a tragic incident where a citizen named Masood, aged 42, took his own life due to harassment from an online loan app company in Rawalpindi, the FIA Cyber Crime Wing has launched a massive crackdown across the country. Seventeen suspects have been apprehended, and 30 accounts related to these companies have been blocked.

Following the heart-wrenching suicide incident, the FIA has taken swift action against such companies involved in illegal practices. Authorities have initiated 74 inquiries against various companies nationwide, with three FIRs already registered. Additionally, 17 individuals have been arrested, and 30 accounts have been frozen as part of the FIA Cyber Crime Wing's efforts. Five offices of the companies engaged in unlawful activities have also been sealed.

Director-General of the FIA, Mohsin Butt, has issued directives to all field units of the Cyber Crime Wing to expedite the crackdown against unregistered/unlawful mobile applications involved in lending money. Furthermore, FIA officials urge citizens to verify whether a company or AP/PP license is legitimate by checking the SECP website.

Affected individuals of loan apps are encouraged to reach out to FIA Cyber Crime Reporting Centers in 15 cities across Pakistan through the helpline for assistance and reporting of cyber crimes.
