If someone wonders whether it is possible to buy a compact smartphone with the top specification, the answer is simple - yes. The aforementioned iPhone 12 mini is the best example of the fact that a small, by current standards, housing does not have to mean poor or average components, but one that will meet the requirements of even the most demanding users.

Among the proposals with the Android system, we can also find compact and efficient models, although it has to be concealed that here most of the few small smartphones offer weaker components. In the end, it can be said that everyone, or at least almost everyone, will find something for themselves.

Apple iPhone 12 mini

For some people, the iPhone 12 mini probably comes to mind first. No wonder, because it is not only a proposal from a very well-known manufacturer, but also the smallest such efficient smartphone on the market. It has an OLED screen with a diagonal of 5.4 inches, and the dimensions of the entire structure are only 131.5 x 64.2 mm. Nevertheless, it hides the top A14 Bionic processor, which, together with iOS 14, ensures perfect operation of the interface, as well as all applications, multimedia and games. In the case of the latter, stereo speakers are useful, in addition, the iPhone 12 mini has a good dual camera with 4K recording at 60 fps, Bluetooth 5.0, fast Wi-Fi 6, NFC and a module for 5G network support. The iPhone SE (2020) is only slightly older, but noticeably less advanced than the iPhone 12 mini. As a result, it is also quite affordable for Apple. Is it weak? Definitely not, because the A13 Bionic processor is the same that was also used in the iPhone 11 series. The smartphone works perfectly, which we also confirmed in our tests, you will not find an application or game that would "choke" it. The IPS screen here is only 4.7 inches but is surrounded by wide bezels. Despite this, the dimensions of 138.4 x 67.3 mm ensure comfortable operation with one hand. The photographic possibilities here are not impressive, but daytime photos look good and movies can be recorded in 4K movies at 60 fps. On the plus side, you need to note the presence of wireless battery charging, fast Wi-Fi 6, NFC and a waterproof housing (IP67).

In the case of Android, the new-smelling ASUS ZenFone 8 is ahead of the game. In fact it is one of the best smartphones with this system at all. The latter feature translates into perfectly smooth animations and images in dynamic games. Their trouble-free operation is guaranteed by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, a lot of RAM and fast UFS 3.1 internal memory. You can also count on stereo speakers, 5G support and a waterproof housing that complies with the IP68 standard. The 4000 mAh battery lasts for about 1.5 days, it only supports wired charging, but it is fast - 30W.

Google smartphones are not the most popular on our market and their prices are not the most tempting. As for the capabilities of this manufacturer's equipment, however, you can not have many reservations, which is also proven by Google Pixel 4a with a 5.81-inch OLED screen. This is a mid-range offer, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor, 6 GB RAM and a clean, well-optimized Android system from the same manufacturer. Contrary to market trends, it has a single camera, but you should not equate it with bad photos, because they fare really well here. There is NFC, there are stereo speakers, but the 3140 mAh battery unfortunately does not impress. A strong bargaining chip here may be the fact that it is one of those smartphones that will be the first to receive the Android 12 update.

The best little smartphone - in our opinion

You don't have to be one of the biggest Apple fans to honestly admit that the iPhone 12 mini is currently the best small smartphone on the market. It offers flagship components that, contrary to market trends, are closed in a really compact housing. For those who prefer the Android system, the ASUS Zenfone 8 may be the equivalent. Although it is a bit larger, but still compact, it also offers great specifications, which translates into very comfortable operation in practice.
