Western Digital present disks with a capacity of 20 TB with iNAND memory

Western Digital is expanding the family of hard drives to data servers, the Red Pro NAS series. This time, consumers can expect a very capacious 20 TB variant with additional iNAND memory, which fulfills a special task.

The quality of photos, movies and music has improved dramatically in the last dozen or so years. Better recording equipment means better material - resolution, bitrate, tonal range. This applies to both professional productions and home recordings. Unfortunately, something for something - such files also take up more space.

The price of the new WD Red Pro NAS promises to be attractive

No one is surprised then that the capacity of the memory built into a smartphone, as well as drives in laptops, personal computers, workstations and servers is also growing year by year. The American giant on the data carriers market has unveiled a new HDD model. I am talking about the WD RED series aimed at NAS.

The WD Red Pro NAS family of hard drives has a model with a staggering 20 TB capacity. It is not the first HDD of this type on the market, but it has an ace up its sleeve. In addition to nine ePMR platters, each with a capacity of 2.2 TB, we also find here 64 GB of the proprietary  iNAND memory.

This allows you to achieve transfers of up to 268 MB / s, which makes it the second such efficient disk drive in the series, just behind the 18 TB model. Moreover, the built-in iNAND memory acts as an additional security feature. In the event of a power loss, the HDD can store up to 100MB of DRAM cache data here.

The newest member of the WD Red Pro NAS family is of course a 7200 RPM drive with a SATA III interface. The new model has already appeared on sale with the suggested price of $ 499.
