There are leaks about the new generation of AMD processors

The first information about the upcoming AMD processors sockets has appeared on Twitter Executable Fix. What can we expect from the new generation?

The new platform is to support dual-channel DDR5 memory, but PCI Express Gen5 support will be reserved only for Zen4 Genoa (EPYC) processors. AMD AM5 CPUs are expected to compete with Intel Alder Lake-S hardware, which also supports PCI Express Gen5 and DDR5 memory. We also know that the new processors are to maintain a 40-millimeter size, as is the case with the current generation.

According to information provided by Executable Fix, AMD is changing the socket type from PGA to LGA. What does it mean? In this case, the pins will no longer be on the processor but directly on the motherboard.

It is not yet known when the new generation of AMD will officially appear on the market. It is said that this could even happen in the second half of 2022. Executable Fix claims it will be the 600 series, the successor to the current X570 and the upcoming X570S. If the outlook is confirmed, AMD will be far behind Intel and its Alder Lake platform, which is expected to support both PCI Express Gen5 and DDR5 memory, well ahead of the AM5 launch.
