The new Qualcomm system has been talked about for many weeks, but the model with Plus in the name presented today will not be the only novelty - the announcements also include the more revolutionary Snapdragon 888 Pro model or - according to the latest leaks - Snapdragon 895 in 4 nm lithography.
The officially presented Snapdragon 888 Plus in 5 nm lithography is an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 888. The single, fastest CPU core, based on the Cortex X1 architecture, was mainly accelerated, the other cores and the GPU remained unchanged. In total, therefore, the performance of the processor in the new SoC is ensured by the cores:
1x Kryo 680 (ARM Cortex X1) clocked at 2.995 GHz, 1x 1MB L2 cache
3x Kryo 680 (ARM Cortex A78) clocked at 2.4 GHz, 3x 512KB L2 cache
4x Kryo 680 (ARM Cortex A55) clocked at 1.8 GHz, 4x 128KB L2 cache

As a reminder, the fastest core in the basic model works with a clock of 2.84 Hz. The graphics in the new Snapdragon 888 Plus are handled by the Adreno 660 GPU, the chipset is able to support screens with a maximum resolution of QHD + with a refresh of 144 Hz, with a 10-bit image and support for HDR10 / HDR10 +.
But this is not the end. In the new model, the manufacturer decided to increase the AI ‹‹performance. The sixth generation Qualcomm AI Engine on the Snapdragon 888 Plus chipset now offers 32 TOPS AI performance, a 20% performance increase over the 26 TOPS AI performance of the Snapdragon 888.
There are no other changes. The Snapdragon X60 5G modem with a maximum download speed of up to 7.5 Gbps and the Qualcomm Fast Connect 6900 subsystem providing Wi-Fi 6E connectivity are responsible for connectivity. There was also Bluetooth 5.2.
New smartphones with the Snapdragon 888 Plus chip will debut in the third quarter of 2021. Among the manufacturers who will use the chipset are: Asus, Xiaomi, HONOR, Motorola and Vivo.
