The provincial government of Sindh has announced the successful reopening of thousands of schools that were previously closed due to a shortage of teachers. Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah revealed that 2,889 schools have resumed operations, thanks to recent education reforms aimed at revitalizing the province's educational system. He assured the public that no school in Sindh will remain closed due to insufficient teaching staff.
As part of the reforms, a ‘Teachers Placement Committee’ was established to strategically assign teachers to these previously closed schools. This committee plays a crucial role in ensuring that every school is adequately staffed, thereby reinvigorating the teaching and learning process across the province.
To address the shortage, 2,587 teachers have been appointed at the taluka level, ensuring that educators are deployed where they are most needed. However, the reopening of 169 schools in underserved talukas remains pending due to an ongoing court case. The fate of these schools will be determined following the court’s decision.
These efforts by the Sindh government mark a significant step towards improving educational access and quality in the region. By reopening these schools and addressing the teacher shortage, the government is working to ensure that all children in Sindh have the opportunity to receive a quality education.
