Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood said on Wednesday that all education ministers will meet at the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) today to review the country's coronavirus situation and conditions for schools to open.

According to the education minister, the meeting will decide what to do next and will be attended by all education ministers in the province.

Given the alarming rise in coronavirus cases across the country, the federal minister said the situation was not the same as it was in November and December. The incidence of cases increased within a week, he added.

Last month, the Federal Minister announced that all educational institutions would resume regular 5-day classes starting March 1.

He said the message applies to all educational institutions in designated cities where restrictions have been imposed.

The coronavirus positive rate rose significantly in the first week of March, sounding warning bells at the NCOC, which on Monday announced a review of a decision to further ease restrictions.

The articalponement of opening cinemas, indoor weddings and restaurants was also discussed at the NCOC meeting chaired by the Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Assad Umar.

The meeting expressed concern about public satisfaction with subsequent non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPI or alternative treatments for diseases other than medical treatment). Reuters
