Pakistani schools will resume five-day classes starting March 1, but the same policy does not apply to universities, the Pakistan Higher Education Commission said on Friday.

In a series of tweets, HEC announced that it has directed all universities to continue academic and research research as directed in the previous Covid-19 Notes.

Universities were instructed to create a "mixed learning system". This means that classes must be conducted online and at university.

The university remains open to the following students:

  • Those who have problems with the Internet at home
  • International students
  • Masters and PhD students
  • Last year's student

"In any case the number of students admitted to campus does not exceed 30 percent of the total number of students enrolled," the guideline states. If lectures are held on campus, management will respond to ensure the implementation of the corona virus SOP.

Previously, schools in these cities were restricted to schools three days a week by the NCOC due to the high prevalence of COVID-19. The NCOC lifted these restrictions following a new assessment of the current situation in these cities, the commission wrote on Twitter.

Pakistani schools and coronavirus

All educational institutions in the country were closed at the end of February 2020 after cases of the coronavirus increased. They are opened in stages starting 15 September 2020.

On November 23, 2020, after the second wave of corona virus cases hit the country, the government announced that all educational institutions would be closed again starting November 26, 2020.

Classes are held online until December 24, 2020, and winter holidays from December 25, 2020 and must last until January 10. The government said it would hold a meeting to review the decision to rebuild the school on January 4.

NCOC then decreed that schools should open gradually, with grades nine through twelve being the first to open on January 18. Reuters
