When it comes to generating ideas, volume is important. Yes, most of your thoughts will not fly and will not bring you millions, but this is normal. The more ideas you come up with, the more chances you have to find at least one or two that are feasible and exciting. So when you move on to the idea generation stage, stay open to all the ideas you get, no matter how eccentric or non-standard.

Step 1. Start with what ignites you

You can use the proverb "know yourself" here. It is more difficult to implement an idea in a geometric progression if you do not burn it. Spend some time learning your hobbies and you will have a better chance of coming up with ideas that really work.

There is nothing wrong with doing something just because you like it, and not all hobbies and interests will work well (or deliver as much fun) if you try to turn them into making money.

However, if you start doing something for fun, it can give you a big advantage. It is definitely easier and more fun to understand the smallest details of what you are sincerely passionate about. You may already have a community of like-minded enthusiasts that you can turn to for ideas and feedback.

It can be knitting, sculpting, making your own tea mushroom or playing in the Saturday football league - a fair game. Make a list of your favorite hobbies and activities.

What topics do you care about?

Think of topics you just can't get enough of. Maybe you can't get enough of 19th century British literature. Maybe you could talk all day about brewing, Italian sports cars or astrophysics. Or maybe you are obsessed with social justice or environmental issues.

Do something new

If you've ever wanted to try your hand at beekeeping, hip-hop dancing or scrap metal sculpture, why not give it a try? Don't worry about turning it into a honey or dance career. Just try it because it's something new, something else. It will challenge you, increase your self-confidence, introduce you to new ideas and new skills, and can throw up some business ideas.

Move to new places

And by new places I mean new, unfamiliar places. If you have the opportunity to learn about a new culture or language, do so. But if you don't, look for ways to learn something new around the house.

Start conversations with strangers on trains and in shops. Attend meetings of people who share your interests. If you are attending a course or seminar at the "Do something new" stage, make it a rule to talk to at least one new person in each class. Don't know what to talk about?
