The first photos of the original GeForce RTX 3090 Ti models have leaked

The closer to the premiere, the more reports about the upcoming graphics card from NVIDIA. It seems that the proprietary GeForce RTX 3090 Ti models will also require a new power supply. All because of the PCIe 5.0 power plug.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3000 series of consumer graphics cards debuted on the market in September 2020. Since then, we have had eight different models aimed at consumers with different needs and wallets. The king of this generation, however, is yet to make its debut on the market.

I'm talking about the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti model, which is the most expensive and efficient model with an uncut GPU. It is supposed to be the equivalent of the older Titans, and therefore a proposal aimed at a handful of enthusiasts and professionals.

The top model from NVIDIA is to offer a lot of news. One of them will be a new power supply that requires a PCIe 5.0 plug. So not the existing 6- or 8-pin solutions, but an advanced connector consisting of 16-pins in a 12 + 4 arrangement, four of which are responsible for data transmission.

The first photos of the proprietary models from the Green partners prove that not only the reference version is to use such a connector. This can be seen in the partial photo of the GALAX GeForce RTX 3090 Ti model from the Boomstar series, aimed at the Chinese market.

Why do you need a new plugin at all? Well, so much efficiency is associated with high power consumption. The PCIe 5.0 standard - officially called 12VHPWR - can deliver up to 600 W. Each pin will allow a current of up to 9.5 A with a low resistance of 6 mΩ.

Of course, you need a new power supply and cabling for this. It is true that there are already talks about special adapters, but due to the lack of communication at the power supply <-> graphics card level, they are to provide a maximum of 450 W. The new PSU has already been prepared by ASUS, MSI, GIGABYTE and Cooler Master.
