According to Instagram chief Adam Mosseri, Instagram is no longer an app for articaling photos. In a video articaled on his Instagram and Twitter pages, he said the company aims to focus on entertainment and video. The social network wants the same success that TikTok and YouTube already have.

It describes some future changes and experiments that Instagram will conduct. In particular, show users recommendations on topics they don't follow, and make videos more striking by offering full screen mode.

The message sent by Instagram is quite clear. The company no longer wants to be seen as a "photo publishing application." Rather, as a general entertainment application driven by algorithms and video. However, it is still unknown how Instagram plans to do so. It may improve existing features or introduce new ones. It is possible that some Facebook settings will be involved. So far, it is difficult to say whether the application will be a worthy competitor to TikTok and YouTube.

Competition is a common practice. TikTok is also trying to compete with Facebook. And last summer, Instagram offered TikTok's millionaire bloggers a financial reward for switching to its Reels service.
