The Huawei Matebook 14 2020 is a part of the linear progression of laptops done by Huawei over the past of couple years. The laptops have steadily started to get better and better and with the introduction of cheap mobile chips from AMD. A lot of mobile laptop manufacturers have started jumping into this powerful chipset™s almost limitless potential. The Matebook is known for packing a lot of powerful specs into a slim and sleek looking chassis. But one must ask the question, does the Matebook justify its price or does it fall behind more notable Ultrabook manufacturers like Samsung and LG?

At a glance, the Matebook does not seem special at all, it has no hinge giving it a 360 axis, it has no detachable screen or any kind of a special exterior. It just has the Huawei logo alongside good I/O which include a USB C, 3.5 mm combo jack, HDMI ports, two USB 3.2™s and a charging port.

But it seems like this is what the Matbeook was aiming for in the first place, instead of being an ultra thin ultrabook and sacrificing on I/O and performance, Huawei decided to just compress the traditional notion of a laptop down to its absolute limits. Which some feel is a very welcome change over the current generation of ultrabooks.

The keyboard has good illumination but it is not that great. The speakers are great but the backlight has a 15 second timer which is kind of annoying. The trackpad in itself is quite big but it feels kind of cheap compared to other Ultrabooks. The laptop feels quite sturdy but the main star of the Huawei Matebook is definitely its gorgeous 14 inch 2160 x 1440 IPS touchscreen. It gets very bright, has amazing viewing angles and balances sharpness to resolution extremely well.

The Matebook is great for video consumptions due to its amazing display and good speakers. It has good battery life due to its low consumption Ryzen mobile chipset and is definitely no slouch when it comes to performance. Overall, it™s a great fit and buy for most.
