You probably know the story of how Huawei was banned from equipping its equipment with Google services (GMS), so there is no need to remind it. It is worth knowing, however, that in response to these sanctions, the Chinese decided to roll up their sleeves and start preparing their own system. Well, maybe not quite your own, because HarmonyOS is still based on Android, but it introduces a lot of solutions that will ultimately translate into more convenient use of technology solutions. HarmonyOS's watchword is "One as All, All as One", which the brand likes to combine with the phrase "everything is smart and connected." And in fact, devices with HarmonyOS (initially smartwatches, smartphones and tablets) are to be used to build a smart-environment by creating the so-called one super device.

The goal of HarmonyOS is to standardize the operation of all devices that we have around us today. Smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, televisions, cars and others, the so-called because intelligent devices can currently operate within several different ecosystems, which Huawei wants to facilitate by introducing a "harmonious" system on all these platforms. Hence its name itself. And so this OS can be a kind of bridge, among others between the drone, smartphone and cameras mounted on the drone, combining it all into one, the aforementioned super-device. The HarmonyOS interface is to help you connect with these and other devices more easily by just swiping your finger across the smartphone screen.

For example, if a user wants to watch a movie at home, just open the control panel on the smartphone and drag the TV icon - the movie will "jump" from the phone to the TV and play on it without any additional steps. The Task Center in HarmonyOS also allows applications to switch between different devices without installing them on each of them. On a device that is part of a super-device, the user can see the tasks running on all others. For example, if the user decides that he needs a larger display for a mobile game he is playing, he can move his finger to the appropriate icon on the smartphone screen and connect it to a tablet such as the Huawei MatePad Pro.

The new Huawei system is basically a bet on the most intuitive connection with other devices, including IoT devices, as well as a very extensive widget section, which can even be called a widget ecosystem. This ecosystem was simply named as Control Panel. The control panel includes advanced options for displaying information from various applications or paired devices, as well as the ability to quickly choose from which music service we want to listen to music at the moment, or what WiFi network we want to connect to. There is also a place for widgets from devices working on the HarmonyOS system, such as refrigerators and ovens.

Huawei currently cooperates with over thirty manufacturers of such devices, although so far most of them are Chinese brands, During today's global launch, Huawei announced that nearly 100 of the brand's devices are to receive the HarmonyOS update in China, including the Huawei Mate 40, Mate 30, P40, Mate X2, nova 8 and MatePad Pro series of smartphones. The newly debuting smartwatch Huawei Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro also come to us with the new system. In smartphones only, this system is to allow for better resource management, so we can expect better performance and longer battery life. HarmonyOS can even run on devices that only have 128 KB of RAM.
