Facebook has introduced an application that is quite like TikTok. It is known as Collab and it allows Facebook users to make short-form music videos by mixing 3 independent videos together. They have publicly launched the music making app collab to compete with TikTok. It is a video editing app that allows people to record in parallel or simultaneously. The app was introduced on the 20th of May 2020 as an invite only beta where people can produce music videos to their favorite songs or on microphone. Facebook Takes on TikTok With New ˜Collab™ App.

The app resembles TikTok a lot, but it does have a few differences that makes it quite dissimilar as well. It allows people to create short videos by combining 3 long ones. So, three musicians can each play a different part of a song and then combine it into one video. Every video that is articaled on Collab is put on a public feed which people can play. You can use it to record one part then mix it with two other parts that you can find on the Collab feed. It also allows you to sync parts together aligning all videos up.

The app is not directly linked to Facebook and can be shared anywhere currently. The app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. It is a welcome change from TikTok as that application has gotten extremely oversaturated with unworthy content. With a huge company like Facebook joining in, there is a high chance that other big companies like Google or smaller indie companies might want a slice of the pie as well. So, you can expect more innovative and fun ideas to be coming along as time passes by and this feature is received by audiences.

Facebook™s Collab app is quite different than TikTok but also shares a lot of the core features. Only time will tell if the public likes the older app more than the newer one or if TikTok will remain the king of the music video business.
