Beavers have just built their first dam in Exmoor after about 400 years.  The dam was built near Minehead. The footage has captured the beavers looking and gnawing at trees from, very far distances trying to collect wood for their mighty project. Beavers are animals who are known for creating damns and changing their environment around them. They were naturally released in the area in order to control the eco system in their own way and form. Beavers were previously thought to be extinct in Britain as they were heavily hunted for glands which was used for medicine. However, they were now preserved in Britain and are completely banned from being hunted. This means that the population is now thriving especially when it is under the confines and protection of Park Rangers. This has allowed the beaver population to grow quite considerable and they have slowly started becoming more active with the environment.

AN example of this would be the fact that they have now started building and a maintaining a dam on Exmoor after about 400 years which is quite unprecedent to watch. It indicates that the beaver population in that area has sustained itself and now they are able to build dams and perform tasks which they were not able to before due to their extremely low population. Beavers use these dams to store food for the winter and give animals deep pools of water which offer shelter and help communities living nearby and wildlife in the area as well. The dams also stop prevent flooding as beavers can store water as it goes downstream. Fish have now started appearing at the site and more wildlife has started appearing at the site of the dam.

This is quite special as the dam is only a few weeks old and is not so huge compared to other dams. However, the fact that it has become after 400 years is truly staggering. This has led to the eco system slowly being restored in the area due to these beavers.
