It was decided in April, 2019 that E-pension would be introduced in all the departments under federal government of Pakistan. The then ombudsperson Syed Tahir Shahbaz made the announcement. The system would enable the payment of pension at earliest and without any succession certificate.
Under taking the meeting chaired by Wafaqi Mohtasib to review the facilitation of pensions, new instructions were delivered to federal departments to accelerate the pension finalization process within a month. The efforts of federal employees were appreciated and the need to do more was stressed by the ombudsman.
Rapid implementation of new regulations was ordered to further improve the process. It was stated that some issues concerning retirement of employees hadalready been tackled and it was announced that the retiring employees would be receiving approximately sixty five percent basic pay as preemptive pension.

It was explained during the meeting that through introducing E-pension system, interconnection of dates of all the departments would happen automatically through AGPR along with the availability of complete information of retiring employees. The system of E-pension was decided to be finalized in June, 2019 with Auditor General of Pakistan Revenues and Controller General of Accounts informing about the status of the process.
All ministries would be liable to cooperate with AGPR and CGA to ensure computerization of the employees’ service record along the inclusion of their service books. The initiative has taken place and now retired employees are receiving their pensions directly in their bank accounts. The pension rules state that the pension cells would be initiating the retiring person’s pension case one month before their retirement.
